    Pride, proud, arrogant

 

Job 33:17            because the pride of evil men

 

Why do you contend with Him?  For He does not give an accounting of any of His words.  For God may speak in one way , or in another,  yet man does not perceive it.  In a dream, in a  vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds,  then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, and conceal pride from man,  He keeps back his soul from the Pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

 

Psalms 59:12            let them be taken in their pride

 

For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride,  and from the cursing and lying which they speak.

 

Proverbs 8:13            pride ,and arrogancy, and the evil way

 

All the words of my mouth are with righteousness;  Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.  They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.  Receive my instruction, and not silver,  and knowledge rather than choice gold;  For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire can not be compared with her.  "I wisdom dwell with prudence,  and find out knowledge and discretion.  The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;  Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth, I hate. Proverbs 11:2            When pride cometh then cometh shame

 

When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.

 

Proverbs 13:10  Only by pride cometh contentions

 

By pride nothing comes but strife,  but with the well advised is wisdom.

 

Proverbs 29:23  a man's pride shall bring him low

 

A man's pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.

 

Mark 7:22            an evil eye, blasphemy, pride

 


"Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ' This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.  and in vain they worship me Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." And He said "what comes out of a man, that defiles a man.  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.  All these evil things come from within and defile a man"

 

1 Timothy 3:6            lest being lifted up in pride

 

(to be a bishop or leader) not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

 

1 John 2:16            the pride of life is not of the

 

For all that is in the world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- is not of the father but is of the world.

 

Ecclesiastes 7:8            is better than the proud in spirit

 

The ending of a thing is better than its beginning;  The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.  Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry,  for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

 

Isaiah 2:12                    shall be upon everyone that is proud

 

For the day of the  Lord of hosts Shall Come upon every proud and lofty, Upon everything lifted up- and it shall be brought low...The loftiness of man shall be bowed down and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low;  the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

 

Jeremiah 13:15            be not proud

 


Hear and give ear do not be proud, for the Lord has spoken.  Give glory to the Lord your God before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble On the dark mountains, and while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it dense darkness but if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for your pride;  My eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock has been taken captive.

 

Jeremiah 50:32            the most proud shall stumble and fall

 

Let none of them escape.  repay her according to her work; for she has been proud against the Lord, ....the most proud shall stumble and fall,  and no one will raise him up;  I will kindle a fire in his cities and it will devour all around him.

 

Habbukah 2:5               by wine, he is a proud man, neither

 

Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him;  But the just shall live by his faith.  Indeed because he transgresses  by wine,  He is a proud man, and he does not stay home.  Because he enlarges his desire as hell,  and he is like death, and cannot be satisfied.

 

James 4:6                     he saith God resisteth the proud

 

The spirit that dwells in us yearns jealously"  But he gives more grace.  Therefore He says:  " God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."  therefore submit to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee form you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.  Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

 

1 Peter 5:5            for God resisteth the proud, and

 

Likewise you younger people submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for:  " God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble."  Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God , that He may exalt you in due time.  Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

 

1 Samuel 2:3            let not arrogancy come out of your mouth

 

Talk no more so  very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of Knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.

 

Isaiah 13:11            I will cause the arrogancy of the proud

 


I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity;  I will halt the arrogance of the proud, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

 

Jeremiah 48:29            proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy

 

We have heard the pride of Moab (he is exceedingly proud), of his loftiness and arrogance and pride, and of the haughtiness of his heart."  " I know his wrath ," says the Lord,"but it is not right; his lies have made nothing right."
